7 Steps of Lot's Downward Spiral

Pastor Amaya Stewart

1. Strife
2. Beheld Sodom-Gomorrah territory
3. Chose to live there
4. Pitched a tent toward Sodom
5. Dwelt in Sodom
6. Sat at the gate
7. Drunkenness

Last service, Chief Apostle H.C. Gunn talked about Lot and how he wanted the bigger land over the prophet, leader, and father figure who deserved more (Abram). He also talked about how Lot and his family were supposed to leave Sodom and Gomorrah behind because God was going to destroy the sinful land, but they still looked to that place whether physically or in their hearts.

I was blessed with a new Bible by my grandparents, and it has additional breakdowns of the scriptures to get a better understanding and more insight. The thing that stood out to me when I was re-reading the scripture we were going over in service was the 7 steps of Lot's downward spiral.

Lot shouldn’t have dwelled in a land that was full of sin, uncleanness, and things that were an abomination to God. If Lot was trying to live right, he shouldn’t have chosen to live in a land full of the evil things people were doing in that town. His decision eventually led to the downward spiral of his whole family, including his children.

When we are saved, we have to be set apart and different from the world. If we used to drink before we got saved, when we have been transformed and washed from our sins, we should stop drinking, but if you say you stop drinking and still hang around the same people and still go to the club, for example, you will eventually go back to drinking because you are putting yourself in an area where you may still be weak, and a place that is unclean and unholy.

I say all of that because Lot chose to live in an unholy and unclean land. We have to separate from the things of this world, not partake in them. That unholiness and uncleanness also followed his family after they left. What if Lot's story could’ve been different if he would’ve chosen to live in a different land and not wanted the biggest or more than he should have? What if he let go of the things that were not for him and not of God instead?

We have to be set apart and holy because if we try to mix with the world we will go back to the world.
