Proverbs 4:20-22
20 My son, give attention to my words;
Incline your ear to my sayings.
21 Do not let them depart from your eyes;
Keep them in the midst of your heart;
22 For they are life to those who find them,
And health to all their flesh.
The word is health to our flesh. The flesh is corrupt, and all it wants is sin. When you are living in your flesh you cannot please God, and you are not of God. In Proverbs 4, it says the word is life to those who find it, and it is health to the flesh.
When we receive the word, live by the word, obey the word, etc., we are feeding our spirit, and. if we live by the spirit, God will dwell in us, and our flesh gets healed because we are choosing to walk in the spirit and we are choosing to not partake in the corrupt thing.
When Jesus was on earth he had flesh just like us, but he chose to walk by the spirit. Jesus wanted to please his father over everything and he loved us so much that he died for us, and Jesus didn’t give into his flesh, and he denied his flesh because he knew that it was corrupt, and we can’t live for the father if we are living by our corrupt flesh. We have to sanctify ourselves and our flesh and we can do that through the word.
We will always have to battle with our flesh, but we can choose to not be a prisoner to it. We have to feed on God’s word daily, and we can’t let our spirits be malnourished. If the spirit is weak, then our flesh will be strong, but we need God, salvation, his word, his mercy and grace, etc., everyday so we can make sure our spirits our strong and that we are not living by our flesh.
