Word of the Week: A Word of Correction

During a recent FORREAL Radio Broadcast, Chief Apostle H.C. Gunn taught listeners about: “A Word of Correction.”

Why is it important to be corrected by God? The message leads us into the answer of not only why but what correction really means.

Proverbs 3:12 says “For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.”

The problem we have, however, is that we don’t like to be corrected saints, because it doesn’t feel good. Things don’t have to always feel good to be good for us. Chief Apostle H. C. Gunn taught from 1 Samuel 17, where Goliath stood up against the nation of Israel, God’s Chosen People. We know the story of how David went down to the battle to bring his brothers provisions sent from their father, but seeing what was taking place through Goliath’s taunts and blatant disregard for God, the zeal David had for Jesus stood up.

When we remember that greater is he that’s within us than he that’s within the world then we will understand how David achieved success. It was David’s trust in God and not himself. He recognized who the battle belonged to because he counted God as bigger, and stronger than anything he could have ever faced. He remembered his past conquest’s, and how God’s hand was with him. He walked by faith with what was proven, and left behind weapons belonging to another. His weapon was the Word of Correction. His trust in Jesus' way made the way possible for victory!

That’s the thing saints, we have to know who we are serving and what God is saying. We need more than just the letter of the Word, but we need to hear from God every day. We have to move out of tradition and seek God through prayer to understand what Jesus is saying in our right now.

This story of David’s victory is always seen as overcoming an obstacle or the defeat of a giant. It’s taught many times in churches as a way for us to be victorious in the face of adversity. This story, however, goes much deeper, and God is faithful to make it known through the mouth of the preacher so that we can hear and be taught God's mind and perfect will concerning us.

Sent a revelation from God, Chief Apostle H. C. Gunn saw a giant silver engagement ring in the sky. God showed him the ring inscribed with a scripture from the Bible: “1 Samuel 17.” What God showed him was a story of redemption. God showed him that David was sent as a Word of Correction to the nation of Israel.

David believed while everyone else was paralyzed with consternation, a side effect that cripples faith. Remember saints that God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, of love, and a sound mind. We must rest in the hope and the love Jesus has for us. God is saying take the teaching. Be obedient to his word. In order for you to be useful to the Kingdom of God, Jesus will give you a Word of Correction.

Chief Apostle H. C. Gunn dove even further into the Word of Correction as the Lord revealed to him in John 6 about the multitude that was fed in the mountains, then followed Jesus afterward. Being so focused on what they could get, the pressed towards our Savior with the wrong intent.

In John 6:26, Jesus told them that they only wanted their bellies filled, but then here is a part of the Word of Correction, the Lord gave in John 6:27. Jesus said: “Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.” Jesus said plainly follow my word, but as that went over the multitudes heads in John 6:28: "Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?” They wanted to know how to answer the call, just as we sometimes wonder how to accomplish this very thing as saints.

Look at what the Lord says next in John 6:29: “...This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” We are called to believe, and not just believe, but on the one “whom he hath sent.”

Sometimes we get the answer and still want something else, a substitute or feel good answer as this multitude did. Still they inquired further by asking for a sign. They responded with what was done for their ancestors (how they received manna from heaven), just like saints sometimes respond with the nasty habit of looking at what was done for someone else, not being happy for that person, but wishing they themselves received the miracle that God gave that person.

That’s the covetous and selfish behavior that led the multitude to look at what they thought Moses did, but Jesus, through “A Word of Correction,” reminded them that it was God that fed them, all along. He said in John 6:32 - 35: “...I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world."

You have got to watch you. You have to search yourself and be real with God. Ask God to help you take the beam out of your own eye so that you can see clearly and value his Word. If you want God to give you bread (correction), you've got to be willing to take it, for they said unto him, "Lord, evermore give us this bread. And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst."

Are you willing to be useful? What is your level of faith? Are you willing to be a living Word of Correction like David was to Israel? If yes, you already have the answer. You’ve got to believe in whom God has sent!!!
