Allow the Holy Ghost: The Watch Letter
Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth? .... This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? (Galatians 3:1-2)
Some weeks ago, Chief Apostle H.C. Gunn taught "don't fool yourself" and "let nothing/no one deceive you." In Galatians 3, Paul the Apostle is asking: Who have you allowed to seduce you into not listening to and obeying the truth? He is letting us know that deeds and traditions will not bring us to a place of total surrender and obedience to God. We can only reach that place by receiving God's spirit. It is what gives us power to do what is right and pleasing in his sight.
He is also warning us to make sure the right spirit is living in us. The Bible says we must try the spirits. We must be sure that the spirit that is operating in us and those we listen to is Holy and of God.
This is so critical because when we allow anything or anyone to cause us to not obey and hear the word, we are robbing ourselves of what we need to help us endure, be transformed, and accomplish God's will - the Holy Ghost.
The scripture above tells us we receive God's spirit by the hearing of faith. And the Lord told this to The Body of Christ through our Pastor Chief Apostle Gunn last week. He said: "the word causes us to get filled with the Holy Ghost."
Romans 8:9 says: "You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if, in fact, the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him."
If we don't have the Holy Spirit because we fail to hear and obey the word, then we are being led by our flesh instead of God's spirit.
Chief Apostle Gunn asked us last week: When will you allow the Holy Ghost to work on you and fill you through the word?
We may find ourselves saying, I am working on this or that change or asking God to work on us and help us change. But that change can't take place without the working of the Holy Ghost in us and if the word is not in us how can the Holy Ghost dwell?
Chief Apostle Gunn also asked: When will be that service that causes us to leave church different?
It's not that God's word and spirit have not come to help us and change us during service, it is that we have not received what has been said and therefore we are making no room for the Holy Ghost to cultivate sincere change in us.
A lot of times the spirit moves in service, and we catch on fire during that service but does the fire leave with us or does it extinguish when there is a word we don't want to hear and obey?
Something Chief Apostle Gunn said to me the other day answers that question. He said you must apply the word to your life. He said it was like a painting. A painting can't be completed unless the paint is applied.
Ephesians 1:13-14: In whom ye also trusted, after that, ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
We and our change can be sealed by the Holy Ghost. If we always find the word and instruction leaking out of our lives the reason could be that we are not sealed by having the Holy Ghost on the inside. The word says we are leaky vessels.
And having the Holy Ghost living on the inside of us is not just for our change but to cause others to change.
Chief Apostle Gunn said: Somebody must have the Holy Ghost. What causes people to change around you and run out of the desire to live in sin is seeing you stop living in sin because you are full of the Holy Ghost.
