Don't quit on Monday - The Watch Letter
We come to church every Sunday and quit on Monday!
Chief Apostle H.C. Gunn preached this on June 18, 2023.
Why? Because we come to grab a Word from God but are not coming to grab hold of God himself. When we have a grip on God, we can stand and sustain our walk with Him all week long.
It reminds me of the song "I Don't Want Let You Go?" Why wouldn't we want to hold on tightly to the source of the Word, provision, answer, healing, etc., which we seek? Why do we want him to hold our hand on Sunday, but we distance ourselves from him Monday-Saturday?
Chief Apostle Gunn also said, we come to church on Sunday and use the Word of God to get something fixed (or for a fix) but don't want God or anything to do with God otherwise.
He showed us that we are not continually serving God throughout the week and have become so wishy-washy because we only think we need to know what God is saying instead of simply needing to know God first and foremost.
It's just like being on a plane when you run into stormy weather. When you hear a voice over the intercom speaking and telling you the plan to make it through, you don't just want to listen to what he has to say; you want to know that the person speaking is a certified pilot and can land the plane safely. At that moment, having a well-trained pilot and knowing who is in control is more critical than any announcement he can make.
If we only want to hear what God is saying and not know who he is, then we treat God like a spectacle. We are just coming to see or hear something that makes us feel good. But why settle for momentarily feeling good when we can joy in him for eternity?
During this week's Friday service, we sang "God is My Everything." Chief Apostle Gunn said that as we were singing, he pulled a check on his own heart to ensure that there were no reservations in him that would keep God from being his all and all, always. And he encouraged the congregation to do the same.
Chief Apostle Gunn said, usually, we don't want to make God our everything and know him because we still have our sorry plans we are trying to force to happen.
When God truly becomes our everything, we seek him for who he is, not just for what he can say or do. We want to know and do what his will is, not just come to watch and see how he can help us accomplish our will.
During a message in July, Chief Apostle Gunn said to bring everything to God, ESPECIALLY YOU. And that's why we quit on Monday, I know I have. We quit because we bring our problems, questions, concerns, and needs to him, but we don't bring all of ourselves to him. When things don't go our way, we have no regard for God, and we leave him right where we got that last Word spoken to us.
John 6:26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.
27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
