Every day like Sunday: The Watch Letter
When we get to Heaven, every day will be like Sunday. These are lyrics that can be found in several gospel songs. But today, God showed me the error that can be in this mindset -- if you are not already living like Heaven every day. The correction came to me first after our Pastor Chief Apostle H.C. Gunn mentioned some things to me I needed to watch for and work on within myself. I was bringing it before God and reading some scriptures to get clear with God in those areas and then the below thoughts came to me.
Chief Apostle Gunn keeps reinterating to us at The Body of Christ, Inc. that God doesn't want a Sunday Christian, and it echoed in my mind and heart. I know I have mentioned this in the Watch Letter before but God is still dealing because he means it and perhaps we aren't getting the big picture, I see areas where I haven't. Let's ask ourselves: Why would God want a Sunday Christian in Heaven? And why would true followers of God want to wait for Heaven for every day to be like Sunday?
Throughout the "Christian church," Sundays are considered the Sabbath day. The Sabbath is supposed to be a holy day and a day of resting in and before the Lord. It's supposed to be a day when you pause everything else to delight and joy in the Lord and worship him in your home/community.
Nowadays, on Sunday we come to the house of God to present ourselves before him. We dress appropriately. We pick up our Bibles. We keep our tongues from profane language and unclean words. We take time to praise God. We put down the dope (in whatever form that may be). We fellowship with the saints. We listen to the preacher, sometimes even taking notes. We try to put forward our best conduct and disposition. We smile. We rejoice. We testify. We talk about the goodness of God.
But shouldn't we do these things every day? Shouldn't every day be a Sunday if we say we are followers of Christ and love the Lord?
1 John 2:6 says: He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
Every day, while Jesus was on earth, one writer noted, he had these characteristics:
He was serious and focused about God's business.
He was honest, truthful, kind, and peaceable.
He was respectful, loving, and obedient.
He had an intimate relationship with His heavenly Father.
He prayed regularly, listened for God's answer/direction, obeyed, and cared about God’s reputation and what he thought.
He glorified God and spent quality time in fellowship and service with God's people.
He was patient and meek, yet bold and strong in the will and word of God.
He kept his life clean and separated himself from temptation and worldly things.
He was consistent, faithful, and walked what he talked.
Jesus was not like this just when he went to the temple or taught before crowds he lived like that every day.
So, what if we choose today, to live like Jesus every day? What if we choose to act the way we do on Sundays every day but this time are sincere with it?
Philippians 2:5: Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.
Yet, even though on Sundays we put our best foot forward, if we are not doers of the word we're taught then -- as Chief Apostle Gunn taught us -- we are just spectators.
I came across a message he preached almost a year or so ago just after the start of 2023 and he talked about Sunday spectators.
He said spectators aren't going to do anything. They aren't going to believe anything. They just come to be entertained. But God, the pastor, and the word are not for your entertainment.
Spectators are the same as Sunday Christians. They are just sightseeing, in other words, they are like tourists just coming to visit but then going back to their way of life.
Spectators pick up their Bibles in church but their Bibles are strangers or inconsistent in their homes. And as a result, spectators aren't open for God to say/instruct/require anything from them at any point throughout the week.
This past Sunday, Apostle D'andrea Lewis preached a mighty word and he started the message off by asking the saints: WHY ARE YOU HERE (at church)? The Lord, through his message, showed us how we were acting like the church in Revelation 2.
It tied right into the past message Chief taught about spectators. If we are just coming to church to be a part of the atmosphere and see what God is talking about then we indeed are just Sunday Christians because we are supposed to be The Living Church and that means every day should be like Sunday. Every day we should strive to be like Christ.
On Sunday, December 10, Chief Apostle Gunn preached: "It's a critical time and we have to make up our minds that we want God (every day)."
This weekend he released a message on FORREAL RADIO BROADCAST, from God, that said TIME OUT. God is calling for our time and commitment every day and he is calling for us to put a stop (every day) to the things we are doing that are not like Christ.
