OMISSION - The Watch Letter

James 4:17: "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin."

This scripture has been standing out since a few weeks ago. I was talking with my Pastor and father Chief Apostle H.C. Gunn one day and he shared how God was dealing about how the sin we overlook as saints most is the sin of omission. When I went to study the WORD of GOD about the sin of omission I came across James 4:17.

Omission is:

  • The things we do not do that we should

  • The things we do not say that we should

  • The things we do not obey that we should

  • The things we do not give that we should

  • The things we don't bring to God that we should

  • The things we don't listen to that we should, etc.

The sin of omission is the same as a "do-nothing spirit." When we choose to overlook things, choose to leave out things, choose to be spiritually ignorant/blind to the things of God, choose to ignore someone's need, choose not to intercede for or support the people of God, choose not to correct or tell the truth, and choose to go silent when we need to speak up for God, we are doing nothing. This is a direct transgression of the WORD of GOD!

Hebrews 10:26: "For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins."

Romans 1:21-22: "Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools ...."

James 1: 22-25: "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed."

Proverbs 6:10-11

"Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, And thy want as an armed man."

Several times, Chief Apostle Gunn has reminded us of a saying that goes something like: "Evil triumphs when good men do nothing."

It makes me think about how many of us are attending church every Sunday and bringing the "do-nothing" spirit with us in the pews. We come to occupy space and check off our "I'm a good person list" but do nothing in response to the WORD of GOD once we leave the church grounds. How much is the world suffering and spiraling into chaos because of us -- people who claim to love God but are not doing anything with his word nor the resurrection power, grace, peace, anointing, and Holy Ghost help he has given us?

Chief Apostle Gunn brought the saying "Evil triumphs when good men do nothing" up again on this weekend's FORREAL RADIO BROADCAST. He was talking about Adam and how his inaction - omission - in obeying God's commands and keeping, guarding, and executing the dominion God gave him over the garden gave place to the devil. Look how much wickedness came into the world from one person omitting God's instruction!!! How many doors have we opened for satan and his demons through our omission? We can be under attack by the enemy or see someone under attack and do nothing and find ourselves surrendering to the devil or surrendering someone we claim to love to the devil instead of surrendering to God through not omitting his word and his will.

The message on the broadcast was sobering. It makes me think about how many children have been abused, how many people murdered, how many people addicted to drugs, how many people held hostage by strongholds, patterns, and bloodline curses, and how many people left on a path to hell because of how we who claim to be God's children have said nothing, did nothing, prayed nothing, shared nothing, warned nothing, rebuked nothing, or cared for nothing. Years ago Chief Apostle Gunn taught about the Gate of Action (https://www.thebodyofchristinc.com/listen-in?wix-music-track-id=6695459818045440&wix-music-comp-id=comp-jyc7a8to). It was based on Genesis 4:9. Cain's offering was unacceptable to God because of his inaction and unwillingness in giving his best to God. Also, because he was unwilling to be a keeper to his brother, Able, he ended up murdering him. That's purposeful omission. God came to Cain to call out his sin and give him a chance to repent. But he chose to do nothing nor recover from his sin.

In researching, I found that omission is another word for negligence. It made me think of how people can be found guilty of negligence in a court of law and be imprisoned or fined for it. In further study, I saw this summary of criminal negligence and it is eye-opening. It is a great way to help put our spiritual negligence (omission) into perspective.

It reads: "Criminal negligence refers to conduct in which a person ignores a known or obvious risk, or disregards the life and safety of others. Federal and state courts describe this behavior as a form of recklessness. An example is a parent leaving a loaded firearm within reach of a small child. (shouselaw.com)

Where has our negligence let the weapons of the enemy reach someone else and even ourselves?

Love, Apostle Kanya
