Public enemy number one: The Watch Letter

The carnal mind is enmity against God (Romans 8:7-9)

We would never like to think that we would be enemies of God. But when we think and act with a carnal mind, that is who we are. Enmity means being in contention with and actively opposed to someone.

Our Pastor, Chief Apostle H.C. Gunn, has been constant in teaching us that the only way to be a true friend, child, and servant of God is to be consistently spiritually minded. Otherwise, we will always be the enemy in the camp.

Chief Apostle Gunn has preached that when we are carnally minded, our bodies rule us. Instead of following the spirit of God, our thoughts, appetites, emotions, feelings, lusts, vision, ideas, patterns, ambitions, etc. are what guide us.

Romans 8:5–6 says: They that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit do mind the things of the Spirit. To be carnally-minded is death, but to be spiritually-minded is life …

When I first got saved, Chief Apostle Gunn encouraged me to study Romans 8. He always told me it was a key to walking with God. Last Sunday, he said that the Lord warned us that we as “Christians” have been hearing the word but not taking heed to it (giving careful, actionable attention). I can say that I have not put in the full effort I should have to dismantle the enemy of God in me—the carnal mind—because of not heeding.

But God gives more grace. We are breathing. So, we have another chance to reclaim the crucification of our flesh. Jesus already carried and bled on the cross so that the flesh would no longer have dominion over us.

This post is also a testimony to how consistent our Pastor has been in teaching the truth. Not only do we hear the truth at each service/ during each broadcast, but we also see the truth throughout the week in our interactions and conversations with him. Those who don’t tell us and show us the truth are passing by us and leaving us polluted in our own blood (flesh) (Ezekiel 16:6–8).

In June 2015, Chief Apostle Gunn preached a message called “Animal Man.” Apostle Terah recapped that message for The Watch Letter. Here are excerpts from her post.

  • When you find that the things of God matter less to you, Animal Man (carnal-mindedness) has his grip on you. If you are operating in your flesh, you cannot please God.

  • You need to know there is a war going on inside of you. Your Spirit Man is at war with Animal Man. You have to put your flesh to death. But if you look back, you will go back. If you let the devil take you away from God, he will take your children too. There's a lot at stake.

  • Unyoke yourself with carnal-minded Christians and unbelievers. Every time you start to progress, somebody comes who has a hold back spirit, and talks about everything but the things of God. These spiritual "hitchhikers" and "hobos" come to steal the word out of your heart.

  • It's time to come out of the graveyard and from living with the dead! Don't let this be your last breath before you are dead to God.

Almost 10 years later, I think its finally time for us to take heed of this message. God shouldn't have to find me in my flesh like he did with Adam and Eve. I want him to find me in the spirit.

Genesis 3: 9-10, And the Lord God called unto Adam and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
