1 Peter 3:3-4: Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel. But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. We have to represent God inside and out. God looks at the heart, but he also looks at our outside appearance. We need to get to the place where we ask God how he wants us to look, or is this appropriate for us to wear, etc. If we are truly trying to serve God, we should want to become who he wants us to become.
