Stop Digging Your Grave: Choose Life
On average, speeding in cars has caused about 10,000 deaths a year. Think of how many lives could have been spared if the drivers would have slowed down or waited for that light to turn green or the other car to pass. What if they decided not to rush to their destination or to leave on time? Their unwillingness to wait not only caused them to break traffic laws but break God's law by causing unnecessary death.
How much damage has been done in our lives because we refuse to slow down, prepare, follow God's law, and wait? How many relationships have died because we have refused to slow down and wait, and stop rushing to get to where we want? How much of your grave has already been dug because you refuse to listen to counsel that says wait on God or let God handle it? How many times have you moved, when God said be still and wait, only to fall into destruction?
This past week, at The Body of Christ, Inc., our Pastor Chief Apostle H.C. Gunn, taught us about staying in our wait. It wasn't the first time though. He has told us many times that our answers and changes can be found in waiting on God. When God sends a Word over and over, it means we still haven't gotten the message and we are still being disobedient in this area.
To wait means more than having patience. It means to wait and layout before God to see his will and listen to his mind and not your own. Waiting also means serving God and others. It means to stay in place and delay your decisions and actions until you know God says go. It means to deny yourself and let go of what you want and pick up what God wants. And if you don't know what God wants you should be listening to your pastor and the truly saved people who God sent to you and seek Godly counsel, while also taking time to read and follow the Word.
Here are some important things to remember from Chief's message:
-God sustains you by your wait!
-Sharpen your hearing for God's voice by being still and focusing on Him!
-Be willing to go all the way when God says go!
-Unwillingness to follow instructions keeps you left out of God's will and on the outside of the blessing!
-Willingness to follow God's instruction and wait on the steps he gives you, gives you the power to tear down the walls in your life just like Joshua did at Jericho!
-Respect the man of God and the Word of God. When you reject Godly wisdom, you reject God. Rejecting God is rejecting life, which leads to all forms of death!
-Living just for or unto yourself is like a dog chasing its tail. He is only going to catch himself up or bite himself. Selfishness is a circle and wilderness that you will always be stuck in!
-Joshua waited for decades under the leadership of Moses and while following God. He stayed at the foot of the mountain as a faithful servant for 40 days. And because he humbled himself, and waited for as long as he believed God wanted him to, God rewarded him, guided him, and protected him!
-The reason we have a problem with waiting and listening to what is right is that we want our reward on earth instead of in God's kingdom. What God has for us is better than this world or we can offer. But sometimes we think we are smarter than God and think our plans will come out better than his. Not so!
-Look past today! Stop wanting everything now and choose to build towards your future in heaven, your future in the new earth with God!
Exodus 24:13-18
“So Moses arose with his servant Joshua, and Moses went up to the mountain of God. 14 And he said to the elders, ‘Wait here for us until we come back to you. Indeed, Aaron and Hur are with you. If any man has a difficulty, let him go to them.’ Then Moses went up into the mountain, and a cloud covered the mountain. Now the glory of the Lord rested on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day He called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. The sight of the glory of the Lord was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the children of Israel. So Moses went into the midst of the cloud and went up into the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.”
Isaiah 40:31
"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
Is that thing you are trying to do or that person you are trying to get to really worth the rush? If it or they are for you, they will be there when it's time. Is getting what you want now, worth being dead to God and your family later because you did not listen.
"But you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die (Genesis 2:17)."
Adam and Eve could not trust God enough to follow his instruction. They wanted to have what they wanted now. It was NOT the devil who made them do it. They chose to not trust the outcome God had for them and decided to take life into their own hands, and as a result, they died spiritually and their bloodline felt the impact. They were removed from the perfect life God had planned for them and they never repented, according to what we see in the Bible. They dug their own graves because they decided that God's will or plan wasn't worth the wait. And all though they didn’t die right away naturally, they died a slow death out of fellowship with God because of their disobedience.
