Talking About Love: The Watch Letter
Saints:
Billions of people are in the world. Each God gave breath to and sent Jesus to die for. But billions don't love God. "Shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments. (Exodus 20:6)" These words grieved me when I read them this week. It hurt to see the word “thousands.” There were millions of the Children of Israel freed from Egypt. Of all those people, what if only a few thousand loved him? What if he can only say a few thousand love him in the world today or a few people love him in the local body?
Note: You’ll see a change in format going forward. This space will refocus on the preached and taught word. I want to ensure that what I write is less of me and more of him. 1 Corinthians 11 says the preached word, by his anointed, is God's ordinance (authoritative decree). We owe it to obey, respect and apply it, just like any man-made law.
Today, we’re talking about love and reviewing a message from Chief Apostle H.C. Gunn on 11/13/2022.
Scriptures: 1 John 3:1, Psalm 18:26
Chief Apostle Gunn said, “God loves loud.” Is your love for God a whisper?
He asked: “where have you lost your love?”
We don't appreciate God’s love because we don't “take time to behold it.” God has not “left us orphans” and “we should be proud to be his sons, daughters.” He said, "take advantage of the privilege and opportunity to know God." Look at who he’s been to us and humanity.
It's not hard to see God's love, but perhaps we’re turning a blind eye because the purity of his love convicts us. If we love corruption, we won’t receive his love or love him/others back.
Chief Apostle Gunn said God is calling us to “be clean and purer.” To be pure, we must love God, people, ourselves. John 14:15 tells us those who love God keep his commands. His commands were designed to keep us pure and the chief of them are about love. We remain unpure because we choose not to love.
We’ve been taught that God's love forgives, gives, cares, corrects, obeys, hates evil/sin, and if we profess to love him our love will do the same.
Here’s some points from Chief Apostle Gunn’s message underscoring how a lack of love has left us unclean (and much of it is found in how we treat others – how we treat God's body is how we treat him). It is important to remember, only what is pure can abide in God's Kingdom. So, until we decide to love, we remain unfit for the Kingdom.
You can’t love God if you don’t love your enemy.
We void the love of God by holding on to grudges/the past.
Unforgiveness is suicide, and you’re killing you.
If you love Jesus, you won’t commit suicide, harm yourself/others.
When you don’t forgive, God can’t hear you. Choose to stop remembering the wrong.
Don't promote who/what is against God.
Cleanse your heart of any wrong intent, envy.
Stop blaming, complaining, feeling sorry for yourself.
We choose to be hurt/offended when we can choose to be glad.
Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child, bend the sapling. If you love them, correct them.
In closing, remember the Children of Israel in the wilderness. Despite God delivering them from slavery, death, starvation and abiding with them, they could not love him or each other. They made themselves unclean. The first generation was not able to enter the Promise Land.
