The One Who Believes God’s Report

Isaiah 53:1: Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?

This scripture was one of two assigned to us this week to study by our leader, Chief Apostle H.C. Gunn.

As I studied it, and read it several times, it felt like the Lord was explaining it in different ways. First, it’s a testimony. It’s a testimony of people like Abraham, who believed God at His word and therefore were able to experience God’s unmatchable power and miraculous hand -- because of not only faith in His word but faithfulness to what he had spoken. Because of Abraham's faith God was literally able to reveal his will and plan to him.

Romans 4:3:

For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

If we can't believe in God, how can we be righteous? How can we strive toward his perfection? There is no way around it. If you don't believe the account of God, and who he sent, then salvation becomes of non-effect in your life, because Jesus was and is God's word.

John 1: 1-4: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Studying Isaiah 53:1 further also made me think of our pastor, Chief Apostle H.C. Gunn. The Lord is testifying of him. Many years ago, God called him to leave his young son in Alabama with his mother and walk to another state to preach the gospel to a people in need, and he did. Another time, God told him to take all he had, which at the time was 13 cents and an apple, and journey to North Carolina to save souls and heal the sick, and he did. And again, God called him to hold revivals and, when left without a place to stay, told him to go to a certain hotel and tell them God sent him ... and the hotel staff gave him a nice room to stay in -- on God's word. God has sent him into hospitals to empty them out by praying for the sick, and he went unashamed and unafraid. God has called him to speak to judges to bring prisoners home because God wanted to give them another chance, and he did. God has sent him into broken homes, even when people hated him, to rescue children, and he went. God has told him to simply travel across the country and pray and watch for the nation, and he went. And even when he has dealt with personal loss and physical pain, he has continued to preach and live the word by faith.

In these instances, and until this very day, our pastor believed God’s report. He believes every word God spoke to him. He believes in every word he reads in the Bible. Because of his testimony and faithful obedience, so many have been won to Christ and God has been able to reveal his arm and his will to Chief Apostle Gunn daily. His fruit is always there. We have learned from him that in order to have a walk of faith, you must not just believe whatever comes out of God’s mouth or is written by his hand, you must also do it.

As I continued to study Isaiah 53:1, my attention was caught on the word report. As Apostle Felicia Gunn always says, God doesn’t waste words. "Report" is not just something that is written or spoken, a report is also a person appointed to serve as a carrier of a message. The definition is not widely used but it is important. So, when I read Isaiah 53:1 again, it read like this to me: Whoever believes God's message and messenger will see and experience God's help, power, and strength (these are Biblical meanings for "arm").

So, if you do not take the man of God, who is sent on behalf of God, seriously and believe what God has spoken through him, or believe that God's word (including the Old Testament) is real and true, then you can never really experience all of God. This means that if you are rebelling and not accepting the word of God, then the things that appear to be blessings in your life are probably not from God. They are probably curses and will soon fall away. Because God can not bless disobedience or rebellion. Abraham was so blessed because he not only believed God, but he first believed the messengers that were sent to him on God's behalf and he respected them.

This is what Moses told the people in Deuteronomy 28:1: And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth.

If you have not believed God's report, then it is time to check to see the status of your salvation and it is time to ask God to rescue you.
