The Word is THE remedy: The Watch Letter

Have you ever taken medicine and felt like it wasn’t working?

In science and health, for a medicine to be considered effective, it must trigger a response in your body. Even if you take the medicine as instructed, it won’t work unless your body responds to it. The medicine must interact with your body’s internal makeup to produce a positive change.

In late September 2024, Pastor Chief Apostle H.C. Gunn asked us: How do we respond to the word we hear?

This is a critical question for a critical time. As Chief Apostle Gunn has taught, the word is a remedy—a medicine for anything we may face. Often, we begin to doubt and blame God when things aren’t working according to the word we’ve read or heard. But have we ever considered how we’ve actually responded to the word and how have we let it interact with how we're made on the inside?

Chief Apostle Gunn shared a testimony about a young man who the Lord wanted to heal from a leg deformity. As prayer was made his legs began to straighten. However, because the man rejected the healing in his heart, his legs eventually returned to their deformed state.

The young man didn’t allow his heart to respond to what God had made available. It wasn’t that the prayer wasn’t real or effective, but the healing couldn’t take root because the man chose not to respond in his heart.

The Lord is trying to show us that while faith comes by hearing the word (Romans 10:17), faith without works—without a response or action—is dead (James 2:17). It’s ineffective and unproductive.

In early October 2024, Chief Apostle Gunn said that God has already made up His mind about His will for us, but we must make up our minds to pursue it.

Just like medicine, which is created to work in a specific way, the word of God is already defined and determined to be effective. But if we don’t respond or engage with it, it has no effect on or in us.

Mark 7:13-16 says: “Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye. And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand: There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man. If any man have ears to hear, let him hear."

1 Thessalonians 2:13-16 says: "For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe."
