Underhill Praise
The Watch Letter — During a service on March 24, 2024, our Pastor, Chief Apostle Gunn, preached about how the enemy will try to use every weapon he can against you, especially within your body, to stop your praise. He said, but if you can take the time to say "ouch" or "that hurts" or talk about what you are battling with, you can also take the time to say "thank you" and still give the Lord praise.
He showed us that praise is the weapon that the devil doesn’t want you to use against him. So he sends attacks to your body to steal your praise.
He sends attacks to keep us distracted from remembering what the Lord had Chief Apostle Gunn to remind us of on that day in March: Romans 8:28 says, "All things work together for our good when we love God and choose to be called according to his purpose."
During that service, Chief Apostle Gunn began to preach about Psalm 107.
O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good; for his mercy endureth forever.
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;
Oh, that men would praise the Lord for his goodness and his wonderful works to the children of men!
For he satisfieth the longing soul and fills the hungry soul with goodness.
A few weeks ago, my husband and I met a beautiful elder named Sister Underhill. She was in a wheelchair, she had a breathing device, and she had other health concerns, but the joy of salvation was all over her. She was shining as brightly as the sun. We’ve never met her before, but after a divine set-up, the Lord led our conversation, and we found out that she listens to our church broadcast with Chief Apostle Gunn every Saturday on the radio.
She began to rejoice as she told us how the broadcast messages blessed and encouraged her. Right there in her wheelchair outside of a medical facility, she worshiped God, and she said that when she was in the world, she sinned hard, so she was determined to be saved and praise hard too.
Mrs. Underhill was a witness to the word about how we owe it to worship because of where God has and will bring us from. She was evidence of what Chief Apostle Gunn had preached about how praise is our weapon. You may be sick in your body, but your soul and your spirit don’t have to be sick! We don’t have to go silent before God because of pain, weakness, uncertainty, or weariness. Our mindset doesn’t have to be feeble, even if our body or circumstances feel that way. Chief Apostle Gunn always says we can't live by how we feel, but by what we know is the word and will of God.
The last name, Underhill, stood out to me. It is a peculiar name. So, of course, I looked up the history behind the name. It means one residing at the foot of the hill.
She was the personification of standing her ground against the ploys of the enemy with praise. She was the personification of Psalm 107.
Oh, that men would praise the Lord for his goodness and for his wonderful works for the children of men!
Let them also exalt him also in the congregation of the people and praise him in the assembly of the elders.
He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the water springs into dry ground.
In Exodus 19 and 24, we have an example of the power of an Underhill. You have to be willing to stay put, listen, and worship at the foot of the mountain to receive what God is saying and doing. God deserves our attention and our gratitude, right where we are!
Chief taught me years ago something that has been a blessing to my life. He said that when you stand up, get up to praise, and wave your hands, you are knocking the devil off your lap and warding off attacks of the enemy in the atmosphere—all while offering a wave offering of glory to God!
