WHY Go: The Watch Letter
Why Go to Church and Still Go To Hell?
Chief Apostle H.C. Gunn asked the congregation this during a service earlier this month.
The Bible tells us that the way to Heaven and God’s Kingdom is narrow and the path to hell wide. This shows us that not everyone who comes to church will be saved or is saved. Why are so many headed down the path to hell despite going to church Sunday after Sunday?
Read on.
During service, Chief Apostle Gunn also said: check your fool meter and check who you are listening to.
Now, how does being a fool and who you listen to determine how and where you spend eternity?
The scriptures testify to what Chief Apostle Gunn is trying to get us to see. A fool can lnot enter into the Kingdom. Being a fool is a choice. A person who does not listen to God is a fool. And God does not have a relationship with those who do not hear him.
Remember that a fool in the ancient kingdoms was also known as a jester. A jester was all about performance and tricks. We can't perform our way or trick our way in to heaven and into a place into God’s Kingdom.
Matthew 7:21-23 says: Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven …. And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Let's further explore the Word.
Psalm 14:1 says: The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
Proverbs 15:5 says: A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
1 Corinthians 1:18 says: For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
Proverbs 1:7 says: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
If you come to church, you are accountable for what you are taught, but if you mock the Word, don't value it, disregard it, don't listen to it, and don't do what is taught, you are simply filling a pew. You are choosing to be ignorant and therefore separate from God. The root word of ignorant is ignore. So, in other words, you are choosing to be a fool because you are ignoring God in his own house and among his own family.
How would you feel if someone ignored you in your own home and ignored your family? Would you allow them or want them to live with you like that for eternity?
A fool fails to recognize God. A fool is someone who rebels against God. God kicked out the angels who rebelled against him, i.e. satan. So, why would we expect to go to Heaven if we rebel against God's word and who he called to preach and deliver it here on earth?
Most people who choose to be fools and to be ignorant of the things of God have chosen to be self-aware versus aware of God and his people.
Chief Apostle Gunn also said that Sunday, "Hell is full of self (people all about themselves and what makes them feel good or comfortable).
2 Timothy 3 says: In the last days ….. men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
The word says that foolishness is bound in the heart of a child, but through teaching, wisdom, counsel, and correction, it will be drawn out. But when we reach the age of accountability and are able to choose to receive the teaching and be taught out of foolishness, yet still refuse these things, we are refusing to know God.
Are we still walking around with the same foolish heart from childhood? It’s time to grow up, or we may never be able to reach Heaven.
